a woman's rebirth...

Pregnancy a very special chapter in life for a woman. A chapter in which she should enjoy her glow, her time, her memories. Pregnancy is also when a woman is most vulnerable and emotional. Her reactions may come from emotions and all she would like to do is be happy and look forward to motherhood. Unfortunately for some women it's a negative and painful experience due to her abuser being violent with her. Pregnancy can be a trigger to domestic violence because abusers take advantage of her vulnerable state. It is roughly estimated that a third of domestic violence cases begin during pregnancy. (babycentre.co.uk) If abuse already occurred previous to pregnancy it only worsens during pregnancy.

A time when a woman should be happy to be a mother especially for those that are first time mothers instead get stripped from their happiness. Rather she is finding herself protecting her innocent unborn child from harms way. Willing to do anything to keep her growing belly safe. Her abuser may not be hitting her abdominal area directly but instead he is chocking her. Yet he is closed minded to think he isn't affecting the unborn baby. Abusers tend to be idiots and will justify their behavior even if it's by stating "I would never hurt my child" yet would almost kill the mother of their unborn child while expecting. Does that make any sense? NO! But to an abusive man that makes sense in their peanut sized brain. Once that child is here a woman is supposed to trust the father with their newborn?!

He couldn't figure out why the baby was crying. Even with family present he didn't seem to care to let his frustration out. My family had no idea of the abuse I had endured during my pregnancy. Time is something no one gets back and a time where a woman should look forward to more ups then downs should be cherished not tarnished. Violence during pregnancy is heartbreaking because not one but two individuals are in harms way. Ladies if you or someone you know if experiencing a violent relationship please seek help. You are a queen and should be treated as such.
